Fumehood
Fumehood, also called fumecupboard or fume cabinet, is an important safety equipment in laboratories. It helps protect users from harmful chemicals such as toxic gases, vapours, and small particles in the air. Any work involving dangerous chemicals should be carried out inside a fume cupboard to reduce the risk of exposure and accidents.
Fume cupboards are usually connected to an exhaust system that removes contaminated air and releases it outside the building. This system uses a lot of energy because it needs to move air continuously . Today, newer designs focus on saving energy while still maintaining safety.
To work effectively, a fume cupboard must be used correctly. Users need to understand proper operation to ensure safety. Laboratories and institutions should provide training and make sure users follow safety guidelines before using the equipment.
Today’s fume hoods are engineered for ease of installation and maintenance, while enhancing laboratory safety and reducing environmental impact.
Fume hoods are part of the LEV system regulated by DOSH Malaysia. In accordance with OSHA 1994 (Act 514) and USECHH Regulations 2000, LEV systems must be tested and inspected at least once every 12 months by a competent person.
